Woodcarvers Studio
West sussex
I am very honoured to have received the fantastic news that a project AIM was intrinsically part of, received three of Sussex Heritages' Awards for 2023.
The Woodcarver's Studio was an impressive project from the start. The initial hand drawn sketches paying such attention to detail to traditional features and character. In a relatively short space of time from receiving the initial drawings, the scope and intent soon unfolded.
I think I can safely say, the challenge on this project was the combination of the thick clay ground with very poor drainage, coupled with the strict tree preservation conditions, limiting what we could practically do to the ground in order to enable the project to get underway.
AIM have been very lucky to work alongside Mike Rooke (designer) and Guy Ballard (Oak Timber Framer) on four previous projects prior to The Woodcarver’s Studio. Unfortunately, this turned out to be the last project we would work with Guy on. Guy (taking winner of 2023 Sussex Heritage Trust's Craftsman of the year) sadly and unexpectedly passed away shortly before the project was finished. Guy was a true craftsman and incredibly passionate about the work he did.
Being part of a team that work hard to deliver the very best product, is at the heart of what we do at AIM. To be acknowledged and accredited with three separate Sussex Heritage awards for the work we have played a part in, is truly all that we ever wish for in the line of work we do.
